Yesterday, I had conversations with two friends from diverse backgrounds. One of them is from the accessibility space, which is my profession, and the other friend is from the online marketing community I was a part of during my time in Bangalore. While talking to my friend from the accessibility space, he asked if I am in competition with other people working in the same field. My immediate response was no, and this is true. When you are dealing with chronic health issues and uncertain about what the future holds, it’s challenging to assert that I am competing with anyone, be it in business or any other domain.
I am playing my own game. I am doing what I love and want to contribute to the community, leaving behind a legacy. I am in an infinite game where I don’t concern myself with who is doing what because it’s not relevant to me. It’s difficult to explain this to many people, but my friend from the online marketing space immediately grasped this perspective.
She is currently facing health issues that were recently diagnosed, and our bond has become even stronger than before. Our connection is rooted in mutual love and admiration for each other. She has been checking on me every month, and our discussions always explore the profound aspects of life and beyond.
These two conversations made me realize one thing: perspective matters immensely. Not many people grasp this perspective, and understanding or truly hearing/listening isn’t enough. One must experience what it takes for another person to carry on each day and continue living a meaningful life despite facing chronic health challenges.
