protect your blog from spam comments

Spread the love

As always spammers find a way of spamming your blog by commenting with lots of irrelavent and unwanted stuff. How do you deal with these kind of comment spamming. If you are on wordpress like me you might have installed Akismit, but inspite of installing such a powerful spam filtering system spammers are trying to find a way to break in.
I thought I will use a captcha which will reduce and stop automatic commenting tools to work I came across a wonderful tool called recaptcha. When I was going through Jerry West blog of seo revolution I came across this wonderful captcha system and this works perfectly.

Captcha is a technology where it can determine whether the visitor who is commenting on our blog is a real human or a bot. These bots have ability to do thousands of posts with in a short time. Some time if we neglect these comments we will drop our search rankings too rapidly. Captcha gives the human a challenge of typing a word and decides if the comment is done by a human or not. Bots don’t have ability to read graphical interface and they cannot crack these digital captcha systems.

You can see the demo on my blog now and this technology is being used by google and the good part of this is it’s owned by google. It’s easy to setup, manage and I recommend this for any blog owner. You can find recaptcha here.

There is a much better tool if you don’t like to annoy your readers to encourage them to put comments.

There is a plugin called Akismet. Do install and activate. It takes care of atleast 98% of spam automatically. Personally I don’t like the idea of having a captcha, it simply detracts your blog readers from entering comments.

Hey Mohan i am using AKISMIT already and it does a good job. Today i found a comment done by you on Indiblogger post is spam and i have to approve it from there. So some times it even considerr real comments as spam. Yes you are true captcha is not allowing my readers to put comments, so i removed and not only that for people with vision impairment it’s becoming impossible to comment their views easily.
