Mobile Apps – the next big trend

Thanks to the Appstores, mobile apps market have exploded in the last few years.
According to some reports the appstores are going to be as big or bigger than the internet. Industry analyst Chetan Sharma in his report on “Sizing Global Apps Market‟ suggests that .the overall mobile apps downloads are expected to increase from over 7 billion in 2009 to almost 50 billion by 2012 growing at the rate of 92% CAGR. The revenue from mobile apps which includes both paid downloads and revenue from advertising and virtual goods is expected to increase from $4.1 billion in 2009 to $17.5 billion by 2012 at the rate of 62% CAGR.
India also has seen several major players launch appstore. Among the operators Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance have announced their appstores early this year. From the device side ecosystem Nokia, Samsung, Intel have also launched their appstore. It is quite evident that the mobile apps market has indeed become quite sizable and only going to expand with an accelerating pace.
So it is only very timely that Numo solutions bring a first of its kind event called AppJam which will showcase the best of mobile apps in the region. It will have an eminent Jury and a clued-in audience vote for the best app . Think of this is reality shows such as Indian Idol/Sare Ga Ma/Dance India Dance meets technology conference/events.  (albeit not entirely) . The jury award will be decided by a jury on several factors and winners will be chosen. The audience present will vote through their phones to select Audience winner. Experts will share learning‟s on marketing and monetizing apps.

Mobile apps present significant opportunities in both the global and local markets. According to Preethi Raj, Manager Developer Marketing APAC Intel “With the Intel® Atom™ Developer Program, we are providing developers a great opportunity to create and monetize their innovative applications for Intel® Atom™ based devices while creating compelling new experiences for users. In less than six months, the program has a registered base of 15000 developers. According to ABI research on Netbooks – Q1 2010, 35M Intel® Atom™ based netbooks were shipped in 2009 and number is expected to grow to 154M by 2014. Also as Intel® Atom™ extends into other devices like handhelds, in-vehicle infotainment devices, and connected TVs developers can write one software application to run on multiple devices. ”
AppJam is designed to delve in details of critical aspects such as marketing and business models of apps which are most vital for success in the market . The Demo showcase presents an unique platform for Indian apps to rise to the forefront both globally and locally

I am attending this event on May 15 and request all mobile developers, students, innovators to submit their mobile application and get their apps reviewed by the industry experts.

protect your blog from spam comments

As always spammers find a way of spamming your blog by commenting with lots of irrelavent and unwanted stuff. How do you deal with these kind of comment spamming. If you are on wordpress like me you might have installed Akismit, but inspite of installing such a powerful spam filtering system spammers are trying to find a way to break in.
I thought I will use a captcha which will reduce and stop automatic commenting tools to work I came across a wonderful tool called recaptcha. When I was going through Jerry West blog of seo revolution I came across this wonderful captcha system and this works perfectly.

Captcha is a technology where it can determine whether the visitor who is commenting on our blog is a real human or a bot. These bots have ability to do thousands of posts with in a short time. Some time if we neglect these comments we will drop our search rankings too rapidly. Captcha gives the human a challenge of typing a word and decides if the comment is done by a human or not. Bots don’t have ability to read graphical interface and they cannot crack these digital captcha systems.

You can see the demo on my blog now and this technology is being used by google and the good part of this is it’s owned by google. It’s easy to setup, manage and I recommend this for any blog owner. You can find recaptcha here.
