This afternoon, while talking to a friend, the topic of going out during a weekend popped up. We were discussing that there were so many public places in the past where people used to hang out and that were safe. Now, going out means either going to a restaurant, a pub, or a mall… most of these food joints and malls have become so expensive. Last week, I went out with friends, and for six of us, the food cost was INR 6000 without any alcohol.
I also realized that most of the cafes and restaurants are focusing on ambiance and experience rather than focusing on the quality, quantity, and taste of the food that is being served. And then there is the service charge—some of the food joints are adding 10% of the bill as a service charge, and some of the waiters and waitresses are reluctant to remove it, saying they share it with all the staff as their salaries are very low.
I hope the food scene in Hyderabad evolves and there are some affordable options because one cannot keep spending $50–$100 each weekend to hang out with friends over some basic food.
